The Lamar Soutter Library at the University of Massachusetts Medical School will be hosting the fifth annual University of Massachusetts and New England Area Librarian e-Science Symposium on April 3, 2013 at the Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center in Shrewsbury, MA.

The e-Science symposium serves as an educational and collaborative opportunity for science and health sciences librarians to discuss e-science resources, in addition to future roles that libraries and librarians might take on to support their institutions.

The  keynote topic for this 2013 symposium is supercomputer centers.  This year’s event will feature two morning addresses, with one address delivered by an administrator of a supercomputer center, and the other address delivered by a librarian that supports the center.  The afternoon includes a panel presentation with four panelists: a researcher, two librarians, and one doctoral student.  Each panel member has been involved to varying degrees in data management, supercomputer centers, and e-science, and will be able to contribute their experiences and perspectives to the panel presentations.

Additionally, as with previous symposia, a poster session will be held, to highlight work in e-science that has been accomplished at various libraries in the region while also encouraging discussion and networking among event participants.  This year’s symposium will also feature the very first poster competition with five different competition categories. Registrants are welcome to submit a poster abstract. For further details, refer to the Poster Proposal Submission page on the symposium site.

The event is free of charge, but advance registration is required. As space is limited, the event is by invitation only.Registration will be restricted to members of the New England Region until March 1, 2013.  After March 1, registration will be open to all and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
